How Squint Surgery Works
Strabismus surgery adjusts the tension of the extraocular muscles that control eye movement. By weakening (recessing) or strengthening (resecting) specific muscles, the eyes are realigned. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic in both children and adults, and usually takes 1–2 hours depending on the number of muscles treated.
Squint Surgery in Children
Early intervention in children is critical to prevent amblyopia (lazy eye) and to allow normal binocular vision development. Mr Mohyudin operates on children at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust and privately at Spire Elland Hospital. Private paediatric squint surgery can be arranged within a few weeks of consultation.
Squint Surgery in Adults
Adults frequently seek squint correction to eliminate double vision, restore binocular vision, or for cosmetic realignment. Adjustable suture techniques may be used in selected adult cases to allow fine-tuning of alignment on the day after surgery.
Recovery
- Redness and soreness of the eye(s) for 1–3 weeks — normal and expected.
- Antibiotic drops for 2 weeks post-operatively.
- Avoid swimming for 4 weeks.
- Temporary double vision may occur in the first few days as the eyes adjust.
- A second corrective procedure is sometimes needed — this is quoted as part of the package.

Is squint surgery available for adults as well as children?
Yes. Mr Mohyudin performs squint surgery in both adults and children. Adults commonly seek correction for a long-standing cosmetic squint, double vision, or a squint acquired after injury or illness.
Can squint surgery fix double vision?
Squint surgery can improve or resolve double vision (diplopia) caused by misaligned eyes in many patients. The outcome depends on the underlying cause and the degree of misalignment. Mr Mohyudin assesses each case individually at consultation.
How long does squint surgery take?
The operation typically takes 1–2 hours under general anaesthetic, depending on how many muscles are treated and whether adjustable sutures are used.
Is a second squint operation sometimes needed?
Yes, in some cases. This is not a failure — fine-tuning the alignment with a second procedure is a recognised part of strabismus surgery. Mr Mohyudin includes re-operation in the quoted self-pay package where appropriate.
